The piano is a stringed, acoustic instrument which was invented in Italy by Bartolomeo Cristofori around the year 1700. It is an instrument which is played when the strings are struck by hammers. It is played using a keyboard, which is a run-in of keys, which are really small levers, that the performer presses down or strikes with the fingers and thumbs of both the hands to form the hammers to strike the strings. The word piano is an abbreviated form of piano, the Italian condition for the Saame coined in the aboriginal 1700s versions of the instrumentate which in turn derives from gravicembalo col soft e forte and fortepiano. The Italian terms of music, softly and forte indicate "soft" and "trashy" respectively, referring to the variations in bulk in this context, i.e., loudness produced in reply to a pianist's touching or pressure exerted on the keys: the greater is the velocity of a key press, the greater is the force of the malleus hitting the strings, and the louder is the sound of the take note produced and the stronger is the onrush. The name was created as a line to the musical instrument harpsichord that does not allow variation in volume. The first fortepianos in the 1700s had a quieter sound and small dynamic chain compared to the harpsichord.
